The Importance of Preschool Equipment

Quality preschool equipment at learning and child care programs provide safe, stimulating environments that are warm, comfortable and pleasing to eyes of pre-schoolers. Children are active learners who use the physical environment in a hands-on manner. The physical environment, as well as all the materials and preschool equipment are part of a child’s exploration and learning experience. The surroundings and interaction with other children in daily routines provides learning opportunities. The learning environment should provide a rich assortment of preschool equipment for them to develop socially, and physically.

Tables are also a big factor for setting the right environment for a learning place. The trapezoid tables are usually kept separate to allow for small group work. However, they can be combined to form one hexagonal table. Usually the class combines the tables during times such as Birthday Parties or Thanksgiving Feasts, when aiming for a more communal feel in the classroom. The round table can fit 8-9 children, the trapezoid table can fit 5 and the hexagonal table 8. With this type of setup, the teacher can either sit across from or next to a child, depending on what the child needs. Sometimes a child will need very hands-on attention from the teacher to help him/her position the scissors in their hands or even provide a reassuring touch on the arm to encourage them to keep working and sitting close. At the smaller tables, this is not an issue as there is simply no room for them. Using the round table is convenient when many children work together on a particular task.

When you position the chairs and tables in your classroom, pay close attention to the ease of access and space for both the children and the teachers. Made sure that there is enough room for the children and my just couldn't squeeze around the area. Playgrounds are also essential needs for children. It is an ability-based approach to play that is designed specifically for the play style and developmental needs of children ages 2-5.
